Environmental Science: We Take It Outside

While taking notes and reading textbooks are great for knowledge, skills are easier to learn with hands-on activities and visual aids.

For students in Dr. David DesRochers' environmental science class, they get to taste the life of a field biologist as they take things outside, exploring the population of lichen on the Dalton State campus.

After choosing measurable independent and dependent variables, students go out with notebooks and tools in hand, scouring the campus for lichen.

They measured and looked for different factors that affect the growth of lichen, such as pollution and the type of tree it grows on.

Maybe lichen biology isn't so difficult after all! ( Yes, pun intended.)
